Somewhere while enjoying new innovations and dining on the wonderfully diverse foods of the many cultures we have in the United States, we all lost track of the calorie count...if we ever were counting. Now, in the after glow, we're aware of what Obesity is doing to our future generations, not to mention the present generation. We should recommit to being proactive and see if we can change the culture around us to being more health conscious. Learn new recipes that exchange sugars for stevia, eat the good fats (yes, there are fats that are good for ya'), grow some of our own fruits and veggies, then save on gas by walking whenever you can. Let's Move! has great information to empower and keep us moving toward healthy goals that end childhood obesity. Such as...
- Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools invites schools, community leaders and parents to bring salad bars to school cafeterias so that children have the choice of healthy fruits and vegetables every day at school. Visit http://www.letsmove.gov/programs for list of resources and how to start.
- Let’s Move! in the Clinic seeks to engage health care professionals through clinical efforts and actions to work with patients to address childhood obesity.
- Let’s Move! Child Care is a voluntary initiative to empower child care and early education providers. Sign up and get involved at http://www.letsmove.gov/programs.
- Let’s Move! Museums and Gardens is a national initiative to provide opportunities for millions of museum and garden visitors to learn about healthy food choices and physical activity through interactive exhibits, children’s after school and summer programs, and healthy food service.
- Let’s Move Faith and Communities helps faith-based and neighborhood organizations promote healthy living for children and communities. You're encouraged to Lead, Organize, and Take Action to make your congregation or community a place of wellness.
...and many more ideas, programs and ways to get involved with organizing your community. Visit them at http://www.letsmove.gov to look around and learn more about obesity.
